We’ve heard of marriages being held in outer space, under water, in Las Vegas and also mass marriages. We’ve heard of people marrying their dogs, cats, cows, or even their fish. But getting married to your virtual girl friend takes it one step further than what is usual, don’t you think ?

So we have modern day Japan, were a guy more popularly known as SAL9000 fell in love with a fictional character from the Nintendo DS “love simulator” Love Plus. Her name is Nene Anegasaki. The game allows you to have a virtual girl friend, go on date’s and even “kiss” by literally kissing the DS’s touch screen. But that wasn’t enough for SAL9000, who got married Nene Anegasaki in an official-looking but not legally binding reception in Tokyo.
Here he is along with his virtual wife in hand.

To add to the celebrations, he took her on a “honeymoon” to Guam. The entire event was streamed live on a Japanese video-sharing site, of which SAL9000 is a prominent member.
I mean, what can you do with an virtual wife ? You can’t kiss her, feel her or do the other “usual” stuff . She’d look the same at the age of 80, while you’ll be barely alive. She can only reply to what you program her to reply to.
But then, if you look on the plus side, there’s a lot more things that suddenly appear on the horizon. You have a wife that can only agree with you, doesn’t throw tantrums, or nag you. You don’t have to worry about that time of the month. She can only be as smart as you are. No in-laws to worry about. No shopping spree’s. No justifying being out late with “friends” or getting drunk. No “No, because i said so”. And the best of all, you can shut her up whenever you feel like it .
Seeing it from this angle, it makes me think that this guy actually made a very smart choice.
