2009

Some stereotypes believe a persons character can be defined by how they maintain their bedroom or bathroom/toilet. Well, believe what suits you best butI say a persons character and living style is defined by the kinda gadgets they use. You don’t have to peek into their bathroom to do that….!! At TechGiraffe, we have lined up 12 gadgets that can possibly define who you are. According to us, these are 12 must-have gadgets of 2009.

Alienware M17X

I believe a computer freak is never complete without the new Alienware – Dell integration laptop. To be precise, an Alienware M17X laptop with Intel Core Extreme Quad QX9300, Up to 8GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM, upgradeable to WideUXGA LCD 1920×1200 and Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M – SLI 250GB 7,200 RPM Hard Drive upgradeable to 1TB (500GBx2) 7200RPM High Performance RAID HD’s.This is the ultimate device if you want to have some fun along with work.

Nokia N900

Have you ever wondered what geeks do when they don’t have access to their Computers. We fiddle with our mobile device. After using a computer as fast as what I had mentioned earlier, none of us would want to use a phone that is slow. In my opinion, a phone got to have a minimum of 500 MHz processor speed. Anything slower than that is for people with intelligence quiescent of less than 70 – That is completely my opinion. So which phone would I go for. I need to have instant access to my emails – Chat – a good camera – fast processor. My choice would be Nokia N900. Nokia is still having a tough time deciding if this is a smart-phone or a PC.

TomTom GO 740 Live GPS navigation system

Well, I just went from office to pocket. Now lets go to a geeks car. This pattern reminds me of MTV Cribs. The hot chic doing the show is always eager to check out the car. I am not a chic but I love speed and cars. Now, I would recommend a TomTom GO 740 Live GPS navigation system. It is always nice to have a lady with an amazing voice guiding you home. It is only $249 and does a great job.

iPod – 160GB

I almost forgot – who doesn’t use an iPod. Is a geek a Geek without a 160GB iPod. I think it is a necessity these days. You can get this iPod for less than $250 and it is better than your cable service from Comcast or Time Warner. Trust me on this.

Play Station 3

Now, how are you going to have some fun without a PlayStation 3. This is something I have somewhere up there on my wishlist. Never had a chance to use this a bit. After playing Assassins Creed on PS3, I almost have an orgasm everytime I spot one of these pieces around. It is a big WOW and a must have gadgets. I should have put it somewhere up on this list along with Xbox 360.

Cisco 7201 Router & Belking Wireless Router

This might sound little a bit awkward but I think I am not going to be happy without a Cisco 7201 router for my home network along with a Belkin wireless router. Considering the number of computers a geek might have, it is important to have an efficient system to manage the network. It cripples you if you do not have a Wireless network at your place. Ever sat in the loo with your mobile hoping you had a wireless connection !! I have and this is a must.

Samsung PN63B550 andPioneer VSX-1019AH-K

I cannot imagine a life without a 63” wide Samsung PN63B550 with Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K for surround sound with some major speakers. I like to watch movies like 2012 in the theaters. Movies that I download illegally(kidding) are always viewed on my television with all that mentioned above. It is just like watching a movie in a theater except you wouldn’t be spending any cash watch it.

Canon 7D

Another must have device in my opinion is an efficient camera. You will never know what you are running into and if you want to cherish that moment for ever, you got to have a camera that can capture every bit like a sponge sucking water into it. If you agree with me, the camera you are looking for is a Canon 7D. This 12 mega-pixel camera can capture a persons picture from space. It is as good as having a personal Hubble telescope.

Seagate External Hard-disk

If you care about your data, you must have an External Hard Drive and my choice is Seagate FreeAgent Go Portable External Hard Drive. This is like a heartbeat for people who wouldn’t want to store a lot on a computer. I always create a backup of everything and this is my saviour. It is like a worm hole generator for me to escape to a place where I store all my data. Thank God for Seagate.

Eyefi- SD Card

The EyeFi SD card has been on my wishlist for months. It’s a wifi-enabled SD card that lets your camera upload to your favorite photo sites like Flickr and Facebook without connecting to your computer. This particular model the Explorer includes geo-tagging. It recognizes where you are when you snap your picture, so you can do cool things like mapping your pictures in iPhoto. Now isn’t that a time saver in this busy life of ours.

Ecosol Powerstick

The Ecosol Powerstick USB Powered Universal Portable Charger is a cable-cum-battery that lets you connect just about any phone or gadget to your USB port. Instead of carrying a briefcase full of cables when you travel, just bring the PowerStick and the appropriate connectors. It comes with connectors that work on a variety of cell phones, cameras and of course, the iPod/iPhone. The REALLY cool thing is that while the PowerStick is charging your camera, phone or Kindle off the USB port on your computer, it’s also storing a second charge. When I’m on the road, my iPhone inevitably runs out of juice before the end of the day; with the PowerStick, I can connect and recharge when it starts to run out.

Microsoft Arc Wireless Mouse

My first instinct in buying a mouse for the netbook was to go small – a tiny mouse with a retractable cord. Not only was the small size annoying, but the retracting cord stopped retracting in its very first day of use. The Arc has been a spectacularly successful alternative: it’s probably the best mouse I’ve ever used. Microsoft’s new BlueTrack technology is a very real improvement over other laser mice: I’ve yet to find a surface it doesn’t work on. The arced shape is extremely comfortable to use, and because it folds up, it takes very little room in my tiny backpack. Best of all, the folding section contains a little magnetic well for storing the USB receiver, so it would be very hard to lose the receiver.

Now, it is possible that some of you reading this might disagree with me. Please let us know what other gadgets might have gone well here. We would like to know more about what you think.
